Dr. R. Elizabeth Lombard


Lombard, R Elizabeth, MD, 100, of Rockwell, was born on February 21, 1921 in Macon County to the late Oly Ernest Lombard and Beulah Dillard Lombard and passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Big Elm Retirement and Nursing Center in Kannapolis.


Dr. Lombard graduated from Walhalla High School in South Carolina in 1937 and from Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing in Chattanooga, TN in 1940. She then graduated from Washington Missionary College in Takoma, MD in 1949 with her Pre-Med degree and from there she graduated from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, CA with her Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Lombard worked as a Family Practitioner with Dr. J.A. Oliver in Rockwell from 1954 until she retired in 2005.


She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Salisbury, Rowan County Medical Society, North Carolina State Medical Society, the American Medical Association, as well as the American Academy of Family Practitioners. Dr. Lombard enjoyed her work and patients, her family and her

church. In retirement, she loved gardening, cooking, trips to the beach and Disney World.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, William Oly Lombard, Jack Lombard, Lewis Leon Lombard, Ruth Oliver, Dorothy Yates and Kathryn Vielle.


Dr. Lombard is survived by 49 adoring nieces and nephews over 3 generations, each made to feel as they were the ‘only one’, through visits, remembered

birthdays and time together.


The Funeral Service for the public were held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell, NC conducted by Pastor Scottie Deal. Burial followed at Brookhill Memorial Gardens in Rockwell.
